Batik is cloth which traditionally uses a manual wax-resist dyeing technique. Due to modern advances in the textile industry, the term has been extended to include fabrics which incorporate traditional batik patterns even if they are not produced using the wax-resist dyeing techniques. Silk batik is especially popular.

Javanese traditional batik, especially from Yogyakarta and Surakarta, has special meanings rooted to the Javanese conceptualization of the universe. Traditional colours include indigo, dark brown, and white which represent the three major Hindu Gods (Brahmā, Visnu, and Śiva). This is related to the fact that natural dyes are only available in indigo and brown. Certain patterns can only be worn by nobility; traditionally, wider stripes or wavy lines of greater width indicated higher rank. Consequently, during Javanese ceremonies, one could determine the royal lineage of a person by the cloth he or she was wearing.

Other regions of Indonesia have their own unique patterns which normally take themes from everyday lives, incorporating patterns such as flowers, nature, animals, folklore or people. The colours of pesisir batik, from the coastal cities of northern Java, is especially vibrant, and it absorbs influence from the Javanese, Arab, Chinese and Dutch culture. In the colonial times pesisir batik was a favorite of the Peranakan Chinese, Dutch and Eurasians. UNESCO designated Indonesian batik, as a Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity on October 2, 2009.

The necklace is not coloured (i.e. black/white), but aged(yin) and smooth(yang). I would have liked it to be coloured, as this is what is displayed. If this is not what you get, I suggest the picture be updated. However, other than this I was overall satisfied and will cosider ordering other items. The price was extremely satisfying, considering the time and effort I put forth trying to find a pendant like this one. Next time I will make it a point to find out more about the product before I order.

It was the only friendship ying yang necklace I could find anywhere. It was perfect, exactly what I envisioned. Fast shipping. Shipping was a bit expensive, though, considering the price of the item, but because the item itself was reasonably priced, I got over it. The other problem I had with shipping, and I don't know if it was the merchant, or Amazon, is that it indicated that the number of days for standard shipping would get it to me well before Christmas, but when I clicked on standard shipping it gave me a notice that I WOULDN'T get it before Christmas and I HAD to choose expedited in order to get it by Christmas. That did not make me happy.

Overall, I've been getting more and more disgusted when I purchase jeans. I mean, I'm not a teenager so I am simply not interested in torn up, faded jeans that cost as much as a car payment. I also have seen the trend towards really thin fabrics, like jeans are just for looks, and durability is no longer something that is high on the list of desirable qualities. The Levis brand is one that I feel like I can always come back to and have a decent sense of what I'll get. I will say that the fabrics have gotten thinner over the years, but are still generally thicker and better manufactured than the other jeans I have tried. I have ordered two pairs of the 550s (Med stonewash) and have been pleased with the color. We have a relaxed dress environment at work and I can wear them without looking like I'm trying to emulate the style of a 15 year old.

Sweater-coat in tweedy acrylic yarn with textural tuck stitching, open weave pattern. Funnel neck, button front, tie belt. Hand wash. Imported. Ankle-length sweater-coat Looks good on the model. Ugly in real life. Too floppy, had no form whatsoever. Front was longer than the back. Very disappointing. Returned it immediately and took a monetary loss on the refund.

I was a bit nervous about ordering this after having read the first review, but I must say I was pleasantly suprised when I received my coat.

Really, "sweater" is the operative word here, since the item is very soft (much more than I expected) and stretchable. This item really should be thought of as long sweater or cardigan rather than I proper overcoat. It has a shawl collar that can button all the way up to be worn in the loose turtleneck style, if you choose. It also comes with a belt and has loops to put it through.

Mine fits me well, and I expect to wear it often.

For example, the artist may use etching, discharge dyeing, stencils, different tools for waxing and dyeing, wax recipes with different resist values and work with silk, cotton, wool, leather, paper or even wood and ceramics.

Batik is historically the most expressive and subtle of the resist methods. The ever widening range of techniques available offers the artist the opportunity to explore a unique process in a flexible and exciting way.
